WEEK TWO - MINGLE

Has it really been only a week since you found yourself in this place? But just like that, the days have come and gone, and five of your number have been lost. The space seems a little larger, less claustrophobic. By mid-afternoon on Sunday, after the execution, guests will also realise that the hotel is once again pristine thanks to the work of the ever-present faceless and nameless staff members, and the elevators are all in working order again.

Something is peculiar about your rooms, though -- something you may notice after you come back from the execution. Your desks now have a different Polaroid camera on them. This time, each resident gets one with a total of 10 film each. Film for these cameras in particular can be refilled in the gift shop. For Kurama in particular, the camera is larger and built so that he's able to (somewhat) see through the lenses and hit a button with his nose to take the photo. What differentiates these cameras from the ones you received last week is for you to find out.

At precisely 8AM on Monday morning, the fog recedes slightly, allowing just the slightest hint of sunlight to peek through. There is a gentle sea breeze, comfortable weather in every feasible way.

Rise and shine, everyone, it's time to make the day yours, just like the rest of the week. Better enjoy it while it lasts.

[ Gentaro is here, too, in the garden. Perhaps it'll provide him some peace, but then again... the hallucinations are getting worse. At this point, he isn't quite sure what to do, aside from the obvious. But that isn't an option he wants to think about.

The point is--Gentaro is here, with a book, and as he spots Yuki, he goes right over. ]

May I join you?

Of course.

[ Yuki manages to offer him a small smile as he scoots over a little so Gentaro has enough room. ]

What are you reading?

[ Gentaro sits, and once he's comfortable, he shows Yuki the book: it's this. ]

Something a bit lighthearted. I am afraid I cannot stomach anything more serious, for the time being.

That's understandable.

[ The title brightens his smile, but only just a bit. ]

"I Am a Cat", huh? It must be from the view of a cat, right?

Oh, yes.

[ He's heartened that Yuki seems to be in better spirits, if just a little bit. If just for a moment. ]

A rather cheeky cat, at that. It is a satire, after all.

Sounds like a good choice for right now.

[ He picks up a couple of flowers in his lap and starts weaving them together. Maybe he'll make a wreath for a door? He has no idea. ]

Iria told me that you recommended her a book last week. You're a big fan of reading, aren't you?

[ He'll just forego mentioning the contents of the book he recommended for now. They don't need the conversation to veer into territory like that. ]

Mm, that I am.

[ He appreciates Yuki's discretion. ]

I believe that reading can lead to learning more about oneself. It allows us to experience the world from a different perspective. Even if that world is fantastical, it may still provide insight and prompt us to reflect about things we may not otherwise reflect upon.

I like that thought. I told Gershom I wanted to start reading for fun a little while ago. I really think I should try it.

I would be glad to provide recommendations for you.

[ Even in a place like this, they can find things to enjoy. ]

It is an excellent way to pass the time, after all.

It is. The time passes quickly even when I read books about gardening…

[ And those aren’t always the most interesting. ]
