WEEK TWO - MINGLE

Has it really been only a week since you found yourself in this place? But just like that, the days have come and gone, and five of your number have been lost. The space seems a little larger, less claustrophobic. By mid-afternoon on Sunday, after the execution, guests will also realise that the hotel is once again pristine thanks to the work of the ever-present faceless and nameless staff members, and the elevators are all in working order again.

Something is peculiar about your rooms, though -- something you may notice after you come back from the execution. Your desks now have a different Polaroid camera on them. This time, each resident gets one with a total of 10 film each. Film for these cameras in particular can be refilled in the gift shop. For Kurama in particular, the camera is larger and built so that he's able to (somewhat) see through the lenses and hit a button with his nose to take the photo. What differentiates these cameras from the ones you received last week is for you to find out.

At precisely 8AM on Monday morning, the fog recedes slightly, allowing just the slightest hint of sunlight to peek through. There is a gentle sea breeze, comfortable weather in every feasible way.

Rise and shine, everyone, it's time to make the day yours, just like the rest of the week. Better enjoy it while it lasts.

Thanks. I'll admit... it surprises me to hear you say that, even though I haven't told you much about what's happened to me.

[ He's dropped bits and pieces, but he has a feeling that Iria can fill in some of those blanks. ]

I guess I'm used to feeling like I need to prove I deserve it.

[ His state of mind really isn't that great right now, but he thinks talking about some of this might help. ]

The head of the Sohma family... is like a "God" for the members of the zodiac.

[ He thinks that should summarize the dynamic of his family. Yuki ponders over what shade of blue to pick next. ]

[ Yikes. From what she's heard of the family so far, the person doesn't sound like a "kind god". ]

I was young, but I still remember that when I first met Akito, I cried.

[ He settles on a light blue hyacinth. That fits Iria, he thinks. ]

There was something deep within me, within my chest, shouting. "I wanted to see you, I didn't want to see you"—a mix of feelings I couldn't understand. It went beyond just myself.

[ Iria would like to say a baby's reaction is rather telling, but she'll just... keep that to herself. ]

Was that because of your conflict with being possessed by the rat?

It was. I could feel the spirit's emotions overlaying my own.

[ He falls quiet again. ]

I was always by Akito's side, for as long as I can remember. I was Akito's playmate, so I was there all day, every single day. I didn't question it at the time because I was so young. I was told the Rat was the closest to God, so it made sense to me at that age.

But despite that, it wasn't good for you.

[ That seems to fit along the lines of getting Yuki out of the main house that he mentioned before. ]

[ He shakes his head. ]

It wasn't. Akito would have tantrums from time to time—for example, when I would have one of my coughing fits, since I was sickly when I was younger. But those wouldn't last, not for long, even if Akito cried.

[ Yuki grabs some lavender. ]

But one day... something happened. Akito... became twisted. "The Rat is hated, no one cares about you, you would be worthless without me"... Those were the kind of things repeated to me over and over. I heard things like that every single day, to the point that I started to believe them.

[ He starts to weave that with the hyacinth. They compliment each other well, he thinks, and they have nice meanings. ]

That was only solidified for me when I tried to ask for help. My brother pushed me away and my mother slapped me when I went to her for comfort. She had effectively sold me off, so I only mattered to her when I provided her status, and my brother didn't want to get involved with me at all.

Iria frowns when she hears that. Family is the most important to her, but she knows that can't be said for everyone else. ]

Well.

[ She watches as he weaves the flowers together. ]

I care about you, and you're worth plenty on your own. It may be hard to internalize that, but I think you're worth it, Yuki.

[ He smiles, glancing up at her. ]

Thanks. I'm sure that you know now that it means a lot to me to hear those words.

I will say the words as long as you want me to, because it's true.

Do you know what the flowers mean? The ones you're using.

I do. I read about them in one of the books in the reading room.

[ There's tons of flowers, so he figured he might as well. ]

[ Or just picking whatever blue and purple flowers he sees. ]

Not completely. I'm picking the ones that look nice, and if they happen to have a nice meaning too, then it's even better.

[ He figures she'll ask, so he points to the hyacinth. ]

It means constancy and sincerity. [ Then he gestures toward the lavender. ] It has a lot of meanings. Serenity, calm, grace, and devotion.

I think those meanings go well together.

[ Like inner peace or something. ]

[ Iria thinks those two are nice words to describe her. ]

It could go for you too.

[ He looks surprised. ]

Really? [ Yuki really wouldn't apply those words to himself. ] I think all of those words suit you more.

It's not about whether it's more or less, but the fact that it can suit you too.

[ She smiles a little. ]

You're sincere. By now, I think there's a certain consistency to you too.

[ He can't argue against the sincere bit—there's no expectations to live up to here, so he hasn't been trying. Besides, he had already gotten a lot better at that before coming here. ]

I feel that through the times that we hung out and such, I've gotten to know you enough to read you.
