WEEK THREE - MINGLE

Last week might've been the worst week some of you have ever had. From the hallucinations to losing five of your number yet again, things are looking rather bleak -- and yet, perhaps optimistic, given that you're so close to ending the game. Is it worth sacrificing one more person to end it, though? ... Only one way to find out.

You have time until then, though, to regroup and recollect yourself if you choose to. From Monday morning, after the rain that fell on Sunday, the weather, continues to be more overcast and stormy throughout the week - gray clouds swirl around the sky ominously, and the pleasantly balmy weather that you've come to expect gives way to passing showers with ominous thunder. Perhaps it's not a good time to go for a swim in the pool, but no one's stopping you if that's what you decide on doing. Your locations, likewise, have changed.

The end is almost here. There are only slightly over half your number still remaining. Do your best to survive.

No, that doesn't actually happen. What happens before the board rattles again is that the room's air conditioning suddenly drops a couple of degrees, enough for it to be decidedly chilly in the room and cause goosebumps. Yikes?

Once the temperature drops, however, the planchette moves again, as quick as the previous question's answer:

K-N-I-F-E-.-A-S-K-R-E-A-L-Q-S-. ]

[Spooooky! The sudden chill is noticeable and a little disconcerting, but Akira carries on and follows Xue Yang's line of questioning.]

Where is our captor?

[ The board is rattling a lot more than usual, it seems. Once it stops rattling, the planchette moves a lot more slowly compared to previously, but it spells out:

[ For a moment, the entire reading room is deathly silent.

The planchette moves, strangely, without any rattling.

H-O-W-T-F-I-K-N-O-W

It stays like that, lingering on the W for a while before it sharply jerks towards the GOODBYE, and the board moves.

The motion looks like the start of the board being flipped over, but it's aborted halfway and kind of... clatters around for a bit instead. ]

[ But that's not all that happens, because when the board clatters to a stop, the entire crew's attention will be drawn to what looks like a dimensional rip happening right behind the table where the ouija board is.

Alan will probably recognise the faint red glow that overlays the image behind the void - it's similar to the one he saw on floor 10, but beyond the darkness, beyond the glow, the room that shows up looks very much like the Lobby, albeit a little bit more faded than usual.

Static crackles, and there's a brief screech of noise, but you can hear something: ]

Hello, you have reached your [ suddenly, loud honking in the background ] I regret to inform you that we know very little of                     , and are nearly as in the dark as you all are.

However, I [ even louder honking in the background ] bring you news of what we have found. Perhaps fetch paper                     before I begin?

A small number of                      basement, which was filled with [ interspersed by a scream ] on this side, which should alarm you, as there was no button for it beforehand. Said group retrieved a [ AGGRESSIVE HONKING ] there was a shard.

I theorize that                    of a cintamani, as a book found during this excursion spoke of it. That should strike you as familiar.

What exactly is this "other side"? How do we open the path to it?

[Because he's got a feeling that it's the key to finding a way back out of here. Call it a hunch after what he's been through back at home...]

[ They're more than halfway through, so the audio is going to get more faint from here on out. ]

They vanquished [ LOUD HONKING AND AGGRESSIVE WING FLAPPING ] words were about "her wish."

[It's half aloud, half to himself. But it also leaves him with another question...]

Can they be brought back? The people who died here. If they still exist, there should be some way to bring them back.

[A trade of some sort, maybe, like he had done for Alice...]

It's unclear, but I hope--

[ There's a couple of things happening in the background that are obscuring some of what they can hear:

1.) Screaming. Quite a lot of it, but not quite identifiable as any form of a unique voice.
2.) Distressed honking and the sound of things being knocked over.
3.) In the distance, an OHOHO-- before it's abruptly cut off by a rush of static. Then, dead silence, before: ]

[...Alright, seeing as they can barely make anything out over the static, wild honking and oujo laughter, Akira's asking the question weighing heavily on everyone's mind:]

What's up with all the honking?

[ Complete silence.

And then, a long, drawn-out sigh, even if it crackles with static and is suddenly loud enough to cause the lights in the reading room to flicker slightly. ]

Our goos                  ten out of hand. It is utter chaos he--

[ The rip starts to waver, like it's flickering out of existence. They have about ten to fifteen seconds before the connection cuts off. ]

[Reigen feels like he almost recognizes something here, and figures two things: one, someone on the other side of the portal is in danger and two, salt usually works on spirits, right? Might as well see what this fabric distortion can handle before it disappears.

Gathering about as large of a handful of salt as he can, Reigen tosses it at the rift.]

[ The rip flickers erratically, and the sounds that come through the rip become even more distorted, more faint, but one line is... relatively(?) clear still even with the crackling of static and electricity drowning things out. ]

and then it shatters into tiny shards that eventually fade out of existence.

Under the flickering lights, the group may catch a flicker of Gentaro's extremely offended face reflected in the shards before they disappear. ]

[Huh. That was not what he was expecting to happen. He figured it was a portal they could throw things through, but instead he just. Broke it.]

[You broke the portal. Akira does his best rendition of Gentaro's extremely offended face. Pretty spot on, right?]
